What the artist - Crispian Heath says:
My work is inspired by landscape. I love exploring the rugged cliffs and other geological sites of Britain. It is there I am able to connect with the play of light on the natural world. My process begins when I am faced with the elements and the history of the land, the apparent as well as the unseen forces at work. The feel of the place interacts with my imagination. I often find myself finding the human gesture within the drama of the natural world. I am often prompted to return again and again to the same place in order to discover the effects of changing light. This is when I begin the creative journey, first by photographing then drawing from photos. Large charcoal drawing is a physical endeavour through which many discoveries are made about my own relationship to the subject. Transferring a two dimensional experiential engagement into three dimensional clay sculpture is a considerable leap into the known and unknown. Its there I step into my own in terms of building on the intricacies of nature and struggling to communicate that which I see. A mould is made from the clay into which glass is placed. This, in turn, is placed in the kiln where the alchemy of heat and time works its magic.
