About the Artist
After receiving a first class BA Hons in Applied Art/Architectural Glass at NEWI in North Wales in 2006, I began to sell and exhibit my work in galleries nationwide. I was also commissioned to create several architectural installations. I successfully passed my PGCE in Applied Arts in 2008 and until recently have been teaching Art/3d studies in secondary school.
In my recent work I am investigating the light and layers within forests, woods and meadows. I am influenced by the seasons, using plants which I have collected from my garden and the North Wales countryside. In this way my work is constantly evolving- every piece being unique. I fuse glass, coloured frits, and enamels and sometimes use sandblasting. These layers of pattern and mark making, allow for each graduation to be viewed simultaneously. The pieces are fired several times to create these effects. I work with porcelain to make delicate items and jewellery which follow the themes of natural textures and shapes and can be personalised to order. I also make a range of glass jewellery.
My installation work has been about communicating memories and emotions. The way in which they are viewed is crucial, the glass has been displayed with under lighting in either small boxes, sets of drawers or tunnels which the viewer has to interact with. I want the viewer to feel they are seeing something private, to feel absorbed within a moment in time.
