Ann Brooks

I became interested in weaving years ago when living in Northern Sweden and on returning home attended weaving classes. Later I took up Basket Weaving and Chair Seating completing the City & Guilds Certificate,  including a design module.  I am still an active member of the Basketmakers’ Association and also belong to the London Guild of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers. I returned to weaving towards the end of the 1990’s.

I weave mainly silk scarves and wraps/shawls though my work does include place mats with napkins, bags and rugs. My basketmaking skills inspire an interest in weave structures.  

Stimulation also comes from wandering around the beautiful local Chiltern Hills with our 2 dogs.  Visits to various museums both in London and Oxford studying the work of other textile designers adds further stimulation.

I weave mainly in silk but also incorporate fine Merino Wool, Linen and Cashmere into my work enjoying the wide variety of both colour and texture that can be achieved using these yarns. 

During the last few years I have exhibited at various Exhibitions, my work is sold at a number of Galleries and I have completed many commissions.
